De Wiersse

At pentecost we visited the gardens of the estate De Wiersse. This is a beautiful house build around 1700 and where the family still lives. There are huge gardens around the house which are maintained by the family, trainees and volunteers. During the year the gardens are some 3 or 4 sundays open to the public, and there are organised guided tours. I wanted to visit it for years, so this time I took my chance.

As you can see the driveway to the house is rather long. Just imagine centuries ago, people in coaches visiting....

The landscape around the house and garden is beautiful to, it belongs to the estate.

There were so many rhododendrons, I had hoped they would have been in full bloom... This can be so beautiful..

This little path is leading to a place which you can rent for some nights. One couldn't go inside, but I've seen some photo's. Such a beautiful, authentic place.

Just imagine to live in a place like this, where you can feel the history around you.

All those shades of green, so full of spring.

It was a rather dreary day, a pity, but we did enjoy our walk through the gardens. Tomorrow I will show you  more.

  1. How green, how wonderful! I also would like to stay at least one night in a building so beautiful. I think it's fantastic with the sun and the rhododendrons in full bloom.

    1. Normally the rhododendrons are in full bloom these days, (april, may) but we did have such a strange weather this year. Hugs to you, Gerda

  5. Such beautiful gardens....and the house is wonderful. I was thinking how much work to keep those windows clean. My house is from the late 1800's. I often think about the ladies of the house, with their long dresses.... climbing the same stairs I climb each night.

  6. At the time these estates were build it didn't cost so much money to have people to clean it. And now there are volunteers to work. How lovely to live in a house from the late 1800's. Nice to wonder about how life was those days in your house. Our house was build in 1923. So the dresses weren't that long anymore. hugs, Gerda
